Discover Brazil's Wild Wonderland
This is a local news segment, in Portuguese, showing the rodeio (Brazilian spelling) in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. Rodeios are held throughout the region, as well as many other Brazilian states. The rodeio shown in this video is the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) franchise which is now very big and popular throughout Brazil. This has turned Brazilian rodeio into a high-paying professional sport - which also allows riders to compete at tournaments in USA, Canada, Mexico and Australia. The object of PBR is to stay on the bull for 8 seconds. As can be seen, besides the bull riding, the rodeios have a carnaval atmosphere with fireworks and live music (Sertanajo, which is the Brazilian equivalent to Country music)
Although animal rights groups may have their opinions about animal treatment - the bull owners get share of the earnings depending on performance, with the result that the bulls are worth a LOT of money. Hence one rider's comment in the video that the bulls get treated better than the riders.
